Message

The agent operation failed because the DPM Agent Coordinator service on <ComputerName> did not respond.

Explanation

This error can occur while you attempt to install, uninstall, or upgrade an agent by using DPM Management Console.

This error might be caused by the following:

  • The targeted computer is not accessible on the network.

  • A firewall on the targeted computer is blocking requests from the DPM server.

User Action

To troubleshoot this issue, do the following:

  1. Check the recent DPMAC source records in the application event log on <ComputerName>.

  2. Verify that the DPM server is remotely accessible from <ComputerName>.

  3. If a firewall is enabled on the DPM server, verify that it is not blocking requests from <ComputerName>.

  4. Verify that the time on the DPM server and the selected computer is synchronized with the domain controller. At a command prompt, type net time /set to synchronize the time with the domain controller.

Then take the following actions based on which agent operation you were performing before you received the error.

If you were installing an agent by using DPM Management Console

On the targeted computer, install the protection agent manually, and then add the computer to the DPM server. For step-by-step instructions, see Installing Protection Agents Manually (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=185786).

If you were uninstalling an agent by using DPM Management Console

  1. On the targeted computer, in Control Panel, navigate to Programs and Features.

  2. In the programs list, right-click Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2010 Agent, and then click Uninstall.

  3. On the DPM server, open DPM Management Shell.

  4. At the command line, type RemoveProductionServer.ps1, and then press ENTER to remove the targeted computer from the DPM server.

  5. When prompted, type the DPM server name, press ENTER, type the name of the computer that you want to remove, and then press ENTER again.

If you were upgrading an agent by using DPM Management Console

  1. Copy the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the DPMAgentInstaller.exe file to a network share that is accessible from the computer on which you want to upgrade the agent.

  2. On the targeted computer, navigate to the network share, right-click DPMAgentInstaller.exe, and then click Run as administrator.

  3. On the DPM server, open DPM Administrator Console, on the navigation bar, click Management, and then click the Agents tab.

  4. In the Details pane, select the targeted computer, and then, in the Actions pane, click Refresh information.
