Have your service account passwords ever expired unexpectedly? Do you have a policy in place for updating your service account passwords?
All Office Communications Servers rely on service accounts. If the passwords to these service accounts expire, services cannot start when the servers are restarted and the servers cannot operate properly. For details about managing your service account passwords, see the following articles:
"Things You Must Know Before Completing Your Topology Design" at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=156065 provides an overview of everything you need to know about setting up your topology correctly so that you can prevent problems.
"Changing Passwords on OCS Service Accounts" at https://blogs.pointbridge.com/Blogs/schertz_jeff/Pages/Post.aspx?_ID=66 outlines best practices for managing your service account passwords.
"The RTCComponentService Account and Cannot Synchronize Address Book" at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=185367 provides a detailed description of the "cannot synchronize address book" error message that Office Communicator 2007 users might encounter if there are problems with their service account configuration.
