Parameters
| Parameter | Required | Type | Description | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
Identity |
Required |
Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell.SPContentDatabasePipeBind |
Specifies the content database to delete. The type must be a valid GUID, such as 12345678-90ab-cdef-1234-567890bcdefgh; a valid name of a SharePoint content database (for example, SPContentDB1); or an instance of a valid SPContentDatabase object. |
||
|
AssignmentCollection |
Optional |
Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell.SPAssignmentCollection |
Manages objects for the purpose of proper disposal. Use of objects, such as SPWeb or SPSite, can use large amounts of memory and use of these objects in Windows PowerShell scripts requires proper memory management. Using the SPAssignment object, you can assign objects to a variable and dispose of the objects after they are needed to free up memory. When SPWeb, SPSite, or SPSiteAdministration objects are used, the objects are automatically disposed of if an assignment collection or the Global parameter is not used.

Detailed Description
The Remove-SPContentDatabase cmdlet deletes a content database permanently from Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Cumulative Update 2, or SQL Server 2005 with SP3 and Cumulative Update 3. In situations where data needs to be persisted, use the Dismount-SPContentDatabase cmdlet. This will remove the content database from SharePoint 2010 Products but not from SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008 with SP1 and Cumulative Update 2, or SQL Server 2005 with SP3 and Cumulative Update 3.
