To verify the functionality of the RD Session Host deployment, log on to a remote desktop client and use Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) to connect to the RD Session Host server.

ImportantImportant
RemoteFX connections require additional configuration. Ensure you perform the task Configuring RemoteFX on a Remote Desktop Session Host Server before verifying functionality for RemoteFX connections.

  1. Log on to a remote desktop client.

  2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Remote Desktop Connection.

  3. If you are verifying a RemoteFX connection, also perform the following steps:

    1. Click Options, and then click the Experience tab.

    2. In the Choose your connection speed to optimize performance box, click LAN (10 Mbps or higher).

    3. Click the General tab.

  4. In the Computer box, type the name of the RD Session Host server, and then click Connect.

  5. In the Windows Security dialog box, type the password for the remote desktop user, and then click OK.

  6. If the connection is successful, a Windows desktop will appear on the screen for the RD Session Host server.

After you connect to the RD Session Host server from the client computer, two events are logged on the RD Session Host server that indicate the session was RemoteFX-enabled. Use the following procedure to locate these events:

  1. Log on to RD Session Host server as CONTOSO\Administrator.

  2. Click Start, type Event Viewer, and then press ENTER.

  3. Click Event Viewer (Local).

  4. Click View, and then click Show Analytic and Debug Logs.

  5. Navigate to Application and Services\Logs\Microsoft\Windows\RemoteDesktopServices-RemoteDesktopSession Manager.

    • If the client computer is connected to the RD Session Host server by using RemoteFX for Remote Desktop Session Host, Event ID 1000 will be shown.

    • If the RemoteFX hardware compression was used, Event ID 1001 will be shown.
