Win7 Service pack1 and USB thumb drives
Since service pack 1 i can no longer plug in two uUSB thumb drives at once into my Dell Diemention 4700. it will recognize the first drive, then i will show the second drive, but clicking on it causes it to pause and it will not open either drive.
It may just be older equipment though, because i tried it on a brand new Dell, and that seems to work fine.
I know it worked before because i do this every couple of days. I will try to uninstall the opdate and see if it works again.
Freeze up at Boot up
Both times after installing SP1, my laptop (Toshiba) would fail to load Windows. It would sit the with a black screen and the circle thing spinning for about five minutes and then lock up. It never did this right away, it would be like after the fifth time of booting up. I tried system restore, but to no avail. The only option was a complete format and restore -both times. This time I am not installing it. THANKFULLY it was an "Important" update that required my selecting it to be installed. Otherwise I would be up a creek without a paddle! Of note, this is not a problem on my desktop (gateway). Both computers have the Intel i5 chips. Both computers are running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

You can not open the release notes in WordPad. The notes come up as gibberish.

[tfl - 06 01 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. SP1 Drop in Performance
We have a number of six core, 8 Gig machines which we got in the past six months. Running with blinding performance on W7. We installed SP1 across the board and they are all now taking considerably longer to boot, launch applications and access the network. Perhaps MS are preparing us for W8 by slowing down W7 like they did with XP :)

[tfl - 06 01 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. Another type of computer hung installing W7 SP1
After installing W7 SP1 on my ThinkPad, it requires to reboot the system (at this point all seems ok) but when it start to load again you obtain an error message and the systems tries to uninstall de service pack automatically.

But it only tries to do it. You can see this window on the screen for hours doing ... nothing.

Finally I had to restore my system to a previous point (at least it was created automatically by my computer before to install the SP1).

So guys keep in mind to make a restore point before installing W7 SP1.

[tfl - 06 01 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. Win7 Service pack1 KB936330 does not show in Control Panel\Programs and Features

After installing W7 SP1 sucessfully, Win7 Service pack1 KB936330 does not show in Control Panel\Programs and Features

My 64bit machine seemed to really slow down and I cannot uninstall the SP1

Jim

*I found that if you right-click on it whilst in the update window then you get the option to uninstall there. It takes a good 20 minutes(I cancelled first time as I thought it was stuck!) but eventually it'll ask you to restart and come back without the mess. Hope this helps.*

Win7 Service pack1 did install at last (2011-06-25)
I tried to install it three times.First time I left it unattended, second time I realised that that during the preparation phase my computer went to sleep and I supposed that it was the reason of the failure.
(Should not the entering sleep mode be disabled by the setup anyway?)After changing the power-savings mode, I could see that the installation stopped at the 117243/318668 -th step with the C0000009A error code. The system restore worked each time, so based on the previos posts, I am glad to have the Win 7 ultimate in its pre-sp1 state.
I just decided to hide the sp1 update, and to disable the automatic update as a resolution for now.Aren't you considering the revoke of this update, at least until its issues fixed?
Best Regards,
Janos

[tfl - 06 01 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. How can I change it back?

Opening excel spreadsheets on my local drive is fine, it is only the spreadsheets a different network which run slow.

I am running excel on a 32 bit professional win7 Toshiba Satellite Pro 3Gb ram Dual CPU T3400 @ 2.167 Ghz

[tfl - 06 01 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64 systems
Thank you all who have posted here. After reading these posts I am glad that I haven't installed SP1 and I do not plan to install it. It can just sit there on my little update screen and I can just keep unchecking it when I need to install updates. You would think that Microsoft would take down this SP1 update and offer a way to uninstall it to those who have already installed it and are having problems. You would think... I guess that's all that needs to be said there.

Thank you again to all who have posted here to help make my decision easier and my gut feeling correct.

[tfl - 06 01 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. Win 7 64bits SP1 on ACER Aspire 3830T
I've just bought this laptop, it came with windows 7 SP1 64 bits...

The main problem I have with it is a very poor internet connectivity (wired and wireless) and ssl issues.

Firefox and Thunderbird encounter ssl_error_rx_record_too_long and ssl_error_bad_mac_read
Google chrome says error 107 net err_ssl_protocol_error
IE9 bumps with various ssl errors

Downloading big files very often result on obtaining a corrupted file (MD5 sum differs) making it quite impossible to download iso

I tried Ubuntu on the same laptop and everything is just fine about internet connection.

It seems to me that there is something really wrong with Windows 7 SP1 TCP/IP implementation, and it makes browsing https sites very very difficult.

I really hope some MS people are reading these comments because there is no other way to do a bug report.

This bug is very critical since it ruins one's productivity

Unusual Behaviour After SP1 Install
My SP1 installed yesterday and since then my Windows Photo Viewer is in the habit of locking-up after closing some images. This seems to be temperamental however, no particular images are causing it. The error I get in the event log is:

The program DllHost.exe version 6.1.7600.16385 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

Process ID: fc0

Start Time: 01cc268eb3e94022

Termination Time: 54

Application Path: C:\Windows\system32\DllHost.exe

Report Id: fd5fbbf3-9281-11e0-865d-bc305ba71f0d

Next, I've notice that all of my default Libraries after now hidden folders and cannot be unhidden. They were not showing up in the tree on Windows Explorer, but with hidden files shown, they do appear. Unusual.

Finally, the system just feels somewhat less stable, some windows feel clunky to drag around, I seem to be experience regular lock-ups for instance when deleting files.

Windows 7 64 bit SP1 install corrupts task scheduler
Unfortunatley I had to reformat machine and do a complete rebuild after SP1 install corrupted task scheduler. Sceduled backups and media centre recordings no longer worked. After trying several fixes on windows forunms I gave up and rebuilt my machine. Definately no more service pack 1 for me.

Mouse seems to be acting up

Things were fine with my mouse until SP1 install. It's just really irritating but not stopping me from working or taking part in other activities. Anyone else or is it just me again?

Easy way to uninstall Win7 SP1
Goto Control Panel and then Windows Update. Look to the lower left corner. You will see 'Installed updates'. Click on that. There you will find a list of MS updates. Search through them and you will find the SP1 update. Click on it and 'Uninstall'.
Win7 SP1 corrupts TASK SCHEDULER
On two machines I had to do an inplace reinstall of Windows 7 (Upgrade) as SP1 install would hang...
After do an inplace upgrade (reinstall) of Win 7 32bit I could then install SP1. HOWEVER...

Even though I was able to now install Win7 SP1 on the two machines I discovered that the TASK SCHEDULER
reported that is was corrupt or had been tampered with on all of it's tasks on BOTH machines after upgrading
to SP1. I did a system restore on both machines to get rid of SP1...

Major problems for me on both computers...Both now working fine again without SP1...
If anybody comes up for a fix of the Task Scheduler after SP1 upgrade I'll try again...
