This error can occur as a result of a variety of issues.

User Action

To resolve this error, do one or more of the following:

If you do not expect to be performing item-level restores using this recovery point, then dismiss this alert; otherwise, take the following recommended actions:

  1. Install the Hyper-V role on the DPM server.

  2. In the Protection task area, select the data source, and then click Create recovery point to restart the backup.

If you are using DPM on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 to protect virtual machines on a host computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2, download and install the hotfix described in article 971677 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=197496).
