Email journaling is the ability to record all email communication in an organization. In Microsoft Exchange Server, there are three different type of journaling:
Envelope journaling is an Exchange Server email archiving feature that lets you to categorize email messages by user, blind carbon copy (Bcc) recipients, and specific distribution lists. Envelope journaling capabilities were added to Exchange 2000 Server, Service Pack 3 and to Exchange Server 2003, Service Pack 1.
The following figure illustrates the envelope journaling process for the Hosted Archive or Hosted Continuity service.
