Create a New Journal Rule Named "Send Journal to Archive"

Topic Last Modified: 2011-04-06

In this procedure, you create a new journal rule that forwards all journal reports to the journaling mail contact you just created, which then forwards the reports to the archive.

To create a new journal rule
  1. Open the Exchange Management Console on the hub transport server.

  2. In the console tree in the navigation pane, click Organization Configuration, and then click Hub Transport.

  3. In the result pane, click the Journaling tab.

  4. Right-click anywhere in the results pane, and then click New Journal Rule.

  5. In the Rule name window that appears, type “Send Journal to Archive”.

  6. In the Send Journal reports to e-mail address box, click Browse.

  7. In the Select Recipient page, select the “Archive Journaling” account you created previously, and then click OK.

  8. Under Scope, select Global.

Global rules process all email messages that pass through a hub transport server. These include messages that may have already been processed by internal rules and external rules.

  9. If you are journaling all users, skip to the next step. If you have created a distribution list to specify which recipient’s messages to journal:

    1. Select the Journal messages for Recipient box, and then click Browse.
    2. In the Select Recipient window that appears, select the distribution group that you created earlier, and then click OK. All messages sent to or from recipients in the distribution list will be journaled.
  10. Click New to create the new journal rule, and then click Finish.

    importantImportant:
It may take several hours to replicate this change across Active Directory Domain Services and the hub transport server. We recommend waiting at least 24 hours before you verify that this change has taken place.

Your environment is now configured to send messages in envelope journal format to the Hosted Archive.
