Removing an Enterprise Edition Front End Server or Standard Edition Front End Server

The process outlined in this topic is designed to step you through the procedures to remove a Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Enterprise Edition Front End pool or a Standard Edition Front End Server. These are the same procedures that you use when you remove a specific server role. The steps are arranged in an order that helps to ensure that you have a minimal impact on your users. If there is a potential for user impact, the procedures note this so that you can plan appropriate downtime in accordance with your downtime and change control procedures.

When you remove a Front End pool, you do not need to remove each Front End Server first. For details, see Step 4 in the table in this topic. Additionally, it is not necessary to remove each server role that is associated with the Front End pool and Front End Server. You can reassign most server roles to another pool in your deployment. For details, see the appropriate steps in the table in this topic.
