Execution of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Plug-Ins

[Applies to: Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011]

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 includes support for executing plug-ins developed for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. A limitation of using Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 plug-ins is that they are not able to take advantage of any new Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 capabilities such as executing in the sandbox (isolation mode), which includes running on Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online and using tracing to help in debugging.

In Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, there existed a parent and a child pipeline. These pipelines have been consolidated into one pipeline for this release. A pre-event plug-in registered in the parent pipeline of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 is equivalent to registering in stage 10. A pre-event plug-in registered in the child pipeline of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 is equivalent to registering in stage 20.

For more information about how to develop and register Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 plug-ins, see the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 SDK.

noteNote
Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 does not support plug-ins created in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0. For more information about how to upgrade plug-ins, see Upgrade Plug-ins and Custom Workflow Activities. In addition, this release of the Plug-in Registration tool supports registering plug-ins compiled with the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 SDK assemblies. To register plug-ins compiled using the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 SDK assemblies, use the Plug-in Registration tool included in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0SDK.
