Adding a Monitoring Server to the Topology

Lync Server 2010

Topic Last Modified: 2010-12-08

You must use Topology Builder to build your internal topology before you can deploy a Monitoring Server. Use the following procedures to define and publish your topology, and then perform the procedures described in Installing the Monitoring Server to install Monitoring Server.

You can also use Topology Builder to configure the Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition Front End pools for which you want to use Monitoring Server to log data.

To successfully publish, enable, or disable a topology when adding or removing a server role, you should be logged in as a user who is a member of the RTCUniversalServerAdmins and Domain Admins groups. It is also possible to delegate the proper permissions for adding server roles. For details, see Delegate Setup Permissions in the Standard Edition server or Enterprise Edition server Deployment documentation. For other configuration changes, only membership in the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group is required.

To add Monitoring Server to a topology
  1. Start Topology Builder: Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Lync Server 2010, and then click Lync Server Topology Builder.

  2. In Topology Builder, right-click Monitoring and then click Define Monitoring Server.

  3. In the next dialog box, do the following:

    • In Monitoring Server FQDN, specify the FQDN for the Monitoring Server.

    • Select a SQL Server and instance from the list, if you are going to use an existing SQL Server or click Define SQL Store to create a new SQL Store reference.

  4. Click OK.

To associate a Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition Front End pool with Monitoring Server

  3. Click OK.
