SNMP Version 3 Security

Applies To: Opalis 6.3

SNMP Version 3 has new features that provide greater security over the SNMP protocol. The Client enables you to create and manage the security access that is required to log into your network devices.

To add SNMP version 3 security credentials

  1. Select the Options menu, and then click SNMP.

  2. Click Add. The User Properties dialog appears.

  3. Type the User name that will be used to identify these credentials. When using SNMP Version 3 within an SNMP object you will need to set the User name field to the value specified in this field.

  4. In the Authentication Protocol box, select the type of encryption to use when connecting with this user. See the documentation for your network device to determine the appropriate encryption.

  5. Type the Password that will be used to log in over the Authentication Protocol.

  6. Select the Privacy Protocol that you want to use. See the documentation for your network device to determine the appropriate protocol.

  7. Type the Password that will be used to log in over the Privacy Protocol.

  8. Click OK.

  9. To remove a user from the User List, select it and click Remove. To modify a user, select it and click Modify.

  10. Click Finish.
