Configuring Primary and Standby Action Servers

Updated: November 19, 2010

Applies To: Opalis 6.3

By default, the first Action Server that you deploy becomes the primary Action Server. You can change the default roles and designate another machine as primary, and change the order of the standby machines.

To designate the Primary Action Server

  1. In the Connections pane, click the Action Servers icon. The list of Action Servers appears.

  2. Right-click the Action Server that you want to designate as primary. The pop-up menu appears.

  3. Select Promote to Primary. The Action Server becomes the primary Action Server, and the Role column displays the word Primary.

  4. Restart all Policies that are running on the affected Action Servers. This applies the changes to the Policies.

By default, the second Action Server that you deploy becomes the first standby Action Server. The third Action Server that you deploy becomes the second standby Action Server, and so on. You can change the order in which standby Action Servers will be used.

To designate the Standby Action Server order

  1. In the Connections pane, click the Action Servers icon. The list of Action Servers appears.

  2. Right-click a standby Action Server. The pop-up menu appears. Select one of the following options:

    • Promote. Select this option to assign the standby Action Server a higher level in the standby rank.

    • Demote. Select this option to assign the standby Action Server a lower level in the standby rank.

  3. Restart all Policies that are running on the affected Action Servers.
