Importing and Exporting

Opalis Integration Server enables you to export Policies that you can import into any other Management Server computer. This enables you to recreate your Policies on any other computer running a Management Server. Exported Policies are packaged into an OIS_Export file that you can save to a network location or send as an email attachment. You can export all Policies in a folder, or export a single Policy.

Exporting Policies

To export all Policies in a folder

1. Click the tab for each Policy and click Check In. If you do not check Policies in before exporting them, they will not be included in the export operation.

2. Click the Actions menu and select Export. The Export dialog appears.

3. In the File Location field, type the path where the exported Policy will be saved. Or click the ellipsis (...) button to browse for the location.

4. Click the ellipsis button (...) to the right of the Policy Folder field. The Select a Folder dialog appears.

5. Select the Policy folder that you want to export and click OK. The Export dialog appears.

6. Select Export the policies contained in sub folders to export any Policies in the sub-folders of the selected Policy Folder.

7. Select Counters, Variables, Schedules, and Computer Groups to export those Global Resources with the Policy Folder.

   You cannot specify individual counters, variables, schedules, or Computer Groups to include in an export operation. Selecting the option for a resource includes all items of that resource type.

8. Select Export global configurations to export any Object or Integration Pack configurations.

9. Click Finish. All Policies will be exported to the file that you specified.

To export a single Policy

1. Click the tab for the Policy and click Check In. If you do not check Policies in before exporting them, they will not be included in the export operation.

2. Right-click the tab of the Policy that you want to export. The pop-up menu appears.

3. Select Export. The Save As dialog appears.

4. Select the location where you want to save the export file and type a name for it. Click Save. The Policy is exported to the file that you specified.

Importing Policies

To import a policy

1. In the Connections pane of the Client, select the folder under which you want the imported Policy to appear. Click the Actions menu and select Import. The Import dialog appears.

2. In the File Location field, type the path and file name of the Policy that you are importing. Or click the ellipsis (...) button to browse for it.

3. Select the Import policies option to import the Policies that are contained in the exported Policy file.

4. Select Counters, Variables, Schedules, and Computer Groups to import those Global Resources from the Policy file.

5. Select Import global configurations to import Object or Integration Pack configurations.

6. Select Overwrite existing global configurations to replace any current settings with the ones in the export.

   Overwriting will replace the entire set of configurations for a particular group. For example, all of the SNMP settings will be overwritten and any currently configured items will be deleted.

7. Click Finish. All Policies and resources are imported.

   If any existing Policies, counters, schedules, variables, or Computer Groups have the same name as these resources in the imported Policy, the Overwrite dialog appears for each type of resource or Policy where a duplicate is found in the destination tree. Select one of the following options:

   • Yes - click to overwrite the resource or Policy.

   • Yes to All - click to overwrite this resource or Policy and all other duplicated resources in this import operation.

     Variables that are overwritten by choosing Yes or Yes to All will also prompt you to replace the value of the variable. By clicking Yes on this secondary dialog you will overwrite the variable value in the environment with value in the export. By clicking No you will keep the value in the environment.

   • No - click to create a new resource or Policy. Opalis Integration Server adds a number to the name of the resource or Policy to create a unique copy of it. For example, a resource called MyCounter would be added as MyCounter (1).

     To assign your own name to the resource or Policy, finish the import operation and find the unique copy of the resource or Policy that you want to rename. Right-click the resource or Policy, select Rename, and type the new name. Verify that the objects in your Policies use the correct name of the resource.

   • No to All - click to create a unique resource or Policy for this resource or Policy and all other duplicated resources or Policies in this import operation. This will not overwrite existing resources or Policies that have the same name.

   • Cancel - click to stop copying further resources or Policies. Resources or Policies that have already been copied will appear in the destination tree.
