Microsoft Project Server 2010 includes a new way to help narrow the amount of data that resources can see, based on their departments. Setting a resource's department helps control which custom fields are available to the resource, and which fields are required.

  1. On the Quick Launch, in the Resources section, click Resource Center.

  2. Select the check box to the left of the name of the resource that you are associating with a department.

  3. On the Resources tab of the ribbon, click Edit Resource.

  4. In the Departments section, click the button to the right of the field.

  5. Click the department that you are associating with the resource.
