Set up a domain name

Updated: March 30, 2011

Applies To: Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials

When you turn Remote Web Access on, you can choose to set up the Internet domain name of the server. You can also set up the domain name at a later time by running the Set Up Your Domain Name wizard. If you do not set up the domain name when you turn Remote Web Access on, you will receive an alert telling you that an Internet domain name is not set up. Users on the local network can use Remote Web Access locally even though the Internet domain name is not set up. For more information, see Log on to Remote Web Access. However, they cannot user Remote Web Access from a remote location until an Internet domain name is set up.

To set up or manage an Internet domain name

  1. Open the Dashboard.

  2. Click Server settings, and then the Remote Web Access tab.

  3. In the Domain name section, click Set up

  4. Follow the instructions to complete the wizard. If you do not already own a domain name and certificate, the wizard helps you find a domain name provider to purchase a domain name and certificate, or you can get a personalized Windows Live domain name.
