Before You Import the Management Pack

Before you import the version 6.0.7000.0 Windows Server DNS Management Pack, note the following limitations of the management pack:

  • Agentless monitoring is not supported.

  • Running side by side with any pre-existing Windows Server DNS management pack is not supported.

  • Because of DNS Server product limitations, least privilege scenario is not supported on domain-joined DNS servers that are not domain controllers. For more information, see Appendix: Least Privilege Setup.

  • For both Windows Server 2003 DNS and Windows Server 2008 DNS, this DNS Management Pack will support as many as 50 zones on a server with 1.6 GHz and 4 GB RAM. More zones can be supported on a DNS server with greater hardware specifications.

  • When you upgrade the Windows Server DNS Management Pack from version 6.0.6480.0 to version 6.0.7000.0, you will see the alert, ‘Scheduler DataSource Module Failed Alert’ generated from every DNS server. This alert will not appear if version 6.0.6480.0 is deleted prior to importing version 6.0.7000.0.

    Note

This alert is for information only, no action is required.
