Send data directly to your mobile phone

You can send data about a location to your mobile phone. MapPoint sends the information as a text message that appears on your phone. If you use this feature, your mobile phone carrier's text-messaging rates will apply.

MapPoint sends different types of data in the text message, depending on the point of interest you select. For example, if you choose a pushpin location, MapPoint will include the name, latitude, and longitude of the location. MapPoint also sends search results, which will vary depending on if your device is connected to the internet. If the information is available, MapPoint also sends the address, phone number, a link to the Web, and nearby places (if you searched for them).

Notes

  • If you edit a location, MapPoint will send the information you edited but will not automatically include the latitude, longitude, address, or phone number of the location. If you want to include the address or phone number of an edited location, type the information in the location's balloon.
  • When you send search results to your computer or mobile phone, and your computer or phone are connected to the Internet, more information and links to the Web will appear with the location information.
  • You can turn off the Send to Mobile confirmation dialog box. On the Tools menu, click Options. Click the Mobile tab, and then clear the Show confirmation after sending message check box.
  • Think of the Map settings pane as the master switch for turning on and off labels and symbols on your map. If the map does not display certain items that you expect, such as nearby places, make sure that the symbols you want are selected in the Map settings pane.
