Topic Last Modified: 2011-02-22

There are various hardware and software requirements and system configuration requirements necessary in order for you to run the Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Stress and Performance Tool.

To run the Lync Server 2010 Stress and Performance Tool on your Lync Server 2010 deployment, for every 2,500 users whose load you want to simulate, you need at least one computer that meets the following minimum hardware requirements:

  • 1 gigabit network adapter

  • 8-GB RAM

  • 2 dual-core central processing units (CPUs)

Your client computer must meet the following software requirements.

  • You must be running a supported operating system. The supported operating systems are the following:

    • Windows Server 2008 operating system (64-bit edition)

    • Windows Server 2003 R2 operating system (64-bit edition)

  • You must have the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 installed. You can download “Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1” from the Microsoft Download Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=143212.

  • On Windows Server 2008, the Desktop Experience must be enabled. For details, see “How to enable Windows Vista user experience features on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008” at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=143213. On Windows Server 2003 R2, the Windows Media Format 9.5 Software Development Kit (SDK) x64 Edition must be installed. You can download the “Windows Media Format 9.5 Software Development Kit (SDK)” from the Microsoft Download Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=143215.

  • You must have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 redistributable package (x64) installed. You can download “Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64)” from the Microsoft Download Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=143216.

  • A fully configured Lync Server 2010 deployment.

importantImportant:
Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API (UCMA) 2.0 libraries are included in the installation package, so UCMA is not required and should not be installed on the client computers.

The computers you are using to run Lync Server 2010 Stress and Performance Tool must be configured according to the following requirements:

  • You must be logged on as a member of the Domain Admins group.

  • Because the password generated for each use is the same as the user’s account name, you must ensure that the Password must meet complexity requirements option in Group Policy Management is disabled in the Domain Policy. For details, see the following documents:

  • Lync Server 2010 Stress and Performance Tool (LyncPerfTool.exe) cannot be run on a computer that is also running Lync Server 2010.

  • Windows PowerShell V2 is required in order to configure and create users.

  • You must run the Lync Server User Creation tool (StressConfig.exe) on the Front End Server or on the Standard Edition server where the user accounts will reside. Each user who is enabled for Microsoft Unified Communications must have a unique phone number.

  • On Windows Server 2008, you must install the Active Directory tools.

  • The page file size should be system managed or at least 1.5 times RAM.

  • You must run the MaxUserPort.reg file on the LyncPerfTool client computers on servers running Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 Edition.
