Changing SCEIP and WER Feedback Options

You can change your Surface Customer Experience Improvement Program (SCEIP) settings or your Windows Error Reporting (WER) settings (whether to opt in or opt out) at any time by using Surface Configuration Editor. The first time you run Surface Configuration Editor, you will be asked whether you want to opt in or opt out of SCEIP and WER. (You can also change the SCEIP settings by editing the CEIPReporting registry entry in Registry Editor. For more information about editing this registry entry, see Global Feedback Subkey.)

Changing SCEIP and WER Settings by Using Surface Configuration Editor

The easiest way to change SCEIP or WER settings on devices made for Surface, is by using Surface Configuration Editor.

To change the SCEIP or WER settings by using Surface Configuration Editor

  1. In Windows mode, click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Surface 2.0, and then click Surface Configuration Editor.

  2. In the left pane, click Feedback Options.

  3. In the Feedback Options pane, under Windows Error Reporting, do one of the following:

    • Click Send reports automatically (recommended) to turn on Windows Error Reporting.

      If you choose this option, error reports pertaining to the Windows operating system will be automatically sent to Microsoft. In some instances, reports might unintentionally contain personal information. Microsoft does not use the information in these reports to identify you or to contact you.

    • Click Do not turn on problem reporting to turn off Windows Error Reporting.

      If you choose this option, no error reports will be sent to Microsoft.

  4. In the Feedback Options pane, under Surface Customer Experience Improvement Program, do one of the following:

    • Click Participate in Microsoft Surface Customer Experience Improvement Program (recommended) to turn on sending software usage data to Microsoft.

      If you choose this option, Surface software usage data will be sent to Microsoft. This data does not intentionally include any information that could be used to identify or contact you.

    • Click No, I do not want to participate to turn off sending software usage data to Microsoft.

      If you choose this option no software usage data will be sent to Microsoft.

  5. Click OK to save your settings and close Surface Configuration Editor, or click Apply to save your settings and continue configuring Surface.
