Creating a Configuration Package

This section provides instructions for creating a configuration package. After creating a configuration package, use the instructions in Creating a Configuration Package Advertisement to create an advertisement for this configuration package.

  1. In Configuration Manager console, in the left pane, expand Site Database, expand Computer Management, expand Embedded Device Management, expand Device Configuration, and then click Configuration Packages.

  2. In the right pane, click New Configuration Package.

  3. On the Name and Description page, enter the following information and then click Next:

    • Name: Enter the name of the configuration package.
    • (Optional) Description: Enter the description of the configuration package.
  4. On the Select Configuration Items page, select the platform and the configuration items for that platform as shown below, and then click Next:

    • Show configuration items for the following platform: Select the name of the platform from the drop-down list. Thin Client Machine is the default. The other platforms are Point of Service Terminal, Digital Signage, and Kiosk. Configuration items vary by platform. Devices running Windows Embedded Handheld are not supported in this release of Device Manager 2011.
    • Include the following configuration items in the configuration package: Select any or all of the configuration items listed.
  5. On the Summary page, review the summary of the configuration package that you have created, and then click Next.

  6. On the Progress page, check for any messages, and then click Next.

  7. On the Confirmation page, confirm that the New Configuration Package Wizard completed successfully, and then click Close.
