Explanation

The Forefront Endpoint Protection client attempted to download and install the latest definitions file and failed. This error can occur if Forefront Endpoint Protection client has encountered an error while trying to load the definitions or if the file is corrupt. Forefront Endpoint Protection client will attempt to revert back to a known-good set of definitions.

User Action

To troubleshoot this event, use the following steps:

  1. Restart the computer and try again.

  2. Check Configuring definition updates (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=214996).

  3. Manually download the latest definitions from the Microsoft Malware Protection Center (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=200965).

    Note that the size of the definitions file downloaded from the Microsoft Malware Protection Center can exceed 60 MB and should not be used as a long-term solution for updating definitions.
