Explanation

The Forefront Endpoint Protection client update failed. This event occurs when the FEP client tries to update itself, but fails. This event commonly occurs due to an interruption in network connectivity in the middle of an update.

User Action

To troubleshoot this event, use the following steps:

  1. Restart the computer and try again.

  2. Check Configuring definition updates (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=214996).

  3. Manually download the latest definitions from the Microsoft Malware Protection Center (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=200965).

    Note that the size of the definitions file downloaded from the Microsoft Malware Protection Center can exceed 60 MB and should not be used as a long-term solution for updating definitions.
