Deploying Windows Azure Nodes in Windows HPC Server 2008 R2
Updated: September 21, 2011
Applies To: Windows HPC Server 2008 R2
This section contains information about extending your Windows® HPC Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later cluster to include Windows Azure nodes. You can deploy the following two kinds of Windows Azure nodes:
- Worker nodes Windows Azure worker role instances that run a guest operating system that is substantially similar to Windows Server 2008 R2
- VM nodes Windows Azure virtual machine (VM) role instances that run your customized operating system and contain your specific applications, data, and configuration settings
After you add the nodes to the cluster and provision them in Windows Azure, you can use the Windows Azure nodes to run many of the applications and jobs that can run in an on-premises Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 cluster.
Note |
|---|
| Support for running message-passing interface (MPI) jobs on Windows Azure nodes requires upgrade to SP2. |
