Duplicate kanban rule (form)

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Click Production control > Setup > Lean manufacturing > Kanban rules. On the Action Pane, click Duplicate kanban rule or Replace kanban rule.

Use this form to create kanban rules that are based on existing rules. There are two versions of this form. These are as follows:

  • Duplicate kanban rule – Use this form to create similar kanban rules for many products or product selections. This function is especially useful for fixed quantity rules, which require one rule for each item number and the combinations of product dimensions. Rule duplication is also useful when the same product selection can be supplied by multiple alternative activities, such as by different subcontractors or factories. The Duplicate kanban rule form opens with the key information copied from the selected kanban rule.

  • New replacement rule – Use this form to create replacement kanban rules. This feature enables you to set up new production and replenishment parameters for changes that are scheduled to occur in the future. Demand and supply conditions change over time. To support these changes, you can create a replacement rule and apply the attribute changes to the rule. We recommend that you use this practice instead of updating an existing rule which has an immediate effect.

The New replacement rule form opens with the key information copied from the selected kanban rule. The Effective field is filled with the date when the outdated rule expires, and you can select a new expiration date. If a kanban rule expires and there is a replacement rule, any active kanbans from the expired rule become active kanbans of the replacement rule. Replacement rules must reference the same product selection and must have the same supplied location. This depends on the storage dimensions setup.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Description

Type

Select the kanban type. The options are as follows:

  • Manufacturing – Create a process kanban job.

  • Withdrawal – Create a transfer kanban job.

Replenishment strategy

View the replenishment strategy of the new kanban rule. You cannot modify this field. You can only create a kanban rule that uses the same replenishment strategy.

First plan activity

Select an activity from the lookup form to be the first plan activity of the new kanban rule.

Production flow

View the production flow version that is referenced by the first activity of the kanban rule.

Multiple activities

Select this check box to configure multiple activities for the kanban rule. Only manufacturing kanbans can have multiple activities.

Last plan activity

When the Multiple activities check box is selected, select the last activity of the kanban rule. The lookup form displays all activities that are downstream from the first activity in the same production flow version.

The Choose kanban flows form opens and displays the valid kanban flows for the production flow version.

Replaced rule

View the kanban rule that is selected to be replaced with the new rule. This field is not active in the kanban rule duplication mode.

Product selection

Select the product selection that is valid to be replenished by the kanban rule. The options are as follows:

  • Product – A specific item is replenished.

  • Product family – Items that are assigned to an item allocation key are replenished.

  • All - All items are replenished.

Product

When the Product option is selected in the Product selection field, select the item from the lookup list. If the product carries product dimensions, the Product dimension fields are available, and you can select the configuration, size, and color.

For fixed quantity kanban rules, the product dimensions are mandatory. For scheduled and event kanban rules, product dimensions are optional. If no specific dimension is selected, the kanban rule is valid for all properties of that dimension.

Product family

When the Product family option is selected in the Product selection field, select the item allocation key from the lookup list.
