Add and Remove POSReady 7 Features (POSReady 7)

4/29/2013

Use the following procedures and commands to list installed features, obtain a list of removable packages, and to add and remove features in Windows Embedded POSReady 7.

List Installed Packages

To obtain a list of installed feature packages, at an Administrator command prompt, run the following command:

DISM /Online /Get-Packages /Format:Table > %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Installed_Packages.txt

Not all packages in this list can be removed. You will need to cross-reference this list with the list of removable packages that you will capture in the following section.

Note

To open an Administrator command prompt, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

List Removable Packages

To obtain a list of removable feature packages:

  1. Place the POSReady 7 DVD into your DVD drive while POSReady 7 is running and note the drive letter that your system has assigned to the DVD drive.

  2. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

  3. At the Command Prompt, type the following command:

    dir /b <DVD Media Drive>:\DS > %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Installable_Packages.txt

The names of installable packages will not exactly match the list of installed packages, however, you can use this list to cross-reference and identify which feature packages are removable.

Remove Packages

To remove a feature package:

  1. In Notepad, open Installed_Packages.txt that you created above.

  2. Copy the package identity that you wish to remove.

  3. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

  4. At the Command Prompt, type the following command:

    DISM /Online /Remove-Package /PackageName:<package identity>

To insert the copied package identity, right-click the Command Prompt window and select Paste.
For example, to remove Fax and Scan:

    DISM /Online /Remove-Package /PackageName:WinEmb-Fax-Scan~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.7601.17514

    Note

You may need to restart the computer for changes to take effect.

Add Packages

To add a feature package:

  1. Place the POSReady 7 DVD into your DVD drive.

  2. Start your system from the DVD drive

  3. When the POSReady 7 installation screen displays, press SHIFT+F10, to display a Command Prompt window at X:\Sources prompt.

  4. Test each drive letter using the dir command to locate the POSReady 7 image and the DVD media starting with drive C:, and then drive D:, drive E:, and so on.
    For example:

    dir c:\
    dir d:\
    dir e:\

Repeat this process through all available drive letters until you identify both your POSReady 7 installation and the DVD using the identifiers:

    • Image: \Installed_Packages.txt (created earlier)
    • DVD Media: \DS (folder)
  5. After you have located the POSReady 7 image and DVD media, change the drive to the DVD Media (for example, drive E:).

  6. Change the directory to the DS folder (for example, cd DS).
You should now see E:\DS prompt or the equivalent drive for the system.

  7. Type the following command, replacing D:\ with the drive letter where your POSReady 7 image is installed:

    DISM /image:D:\ /add-package /packagepath:<package file name>

Where <package file name> is the name of the CAB file that you want to install from the DS folder.
For example, to install Fax and Scan:

    DISM /image:D:\ /add-package /packagepath:winemb-fax-scan.cab

  8. After the feature package has finished installation, type Exit to close the Command Prompt window.

  9. Click Close in the upper-right corner of the Install Windows screen, and then confirm that you want to cancel Windows installation.

  10. You can confirm that the Fax and Scan package is installed by using the steps in the List Installed Features section in this topic.
