Update Alert

The Update Alert activity updates the information in a System Center Operations Manager alert. You can use the Update Alert activity in a runbook to update an alert based on the results from automated diagnostics performed by that runbook.

Configuring the Update Alert Activity

To configure the Update Alert activity

  1. From the Activities pane, drag an Update Alert activity to the active runbook.

  2. Double-click the Update Alert activity icon. The Properties dialog opens.

  3. Configure the settings in the Details tab:

    1. In the Server section, click the ellipsis button (...), and select the Operations Manager server Connection that you want to use for this activity. Click OK.

    2. In the Properties section, use published data from the data output by a previous activity in the runbook to populate the Alert ID field.

      You can also use published data to automatically populate the value of the property from the data output by a previous activity in the runbook.

      To use published data

      1. Right-click the property value box, click Subscribe, and then click Published Data.

      2. Click the Activity drop-down box and select the activity from which you want to obtain the data.

      3. To view additional data elements common across the runbook, select Show Common Published Data.

      4. Click the published data element you want to use, and then click OK.

    3. Click Select fields. The Add/Remove Property dialog appears. From the Available list, select the fields that you want to change in the alert and click the Add button. The fields appear in the Selected list. When you have finished selecting fields to be updated, click OK. The fields that you selected appear in the Properties list.

    4. Configure the properties of each field that you selected. You can also use published data to automatically populate the value of the properties from the data output by a previous activity in the runbook.

      • To change the Owner name, type the new owner name in the field.

      • To change the ResolutionState, click the ellipsis button (...) and select the new resolution state.

      • To change the TicketID, type the new ticket ID number in the field.

      • The Custom Field Number properties correspond to Custom Field Numbered items in System Center Operations Manager. For example, to update Custom Field 1 in System Center Operations Manager, enter the new value in the CustomField1 field.

  5. Click Finish.
