Applies to: SharePoint Server 2010, SharePoint Foundation 2010

Rule Name: Databases exist on servers running SharePoint Foundation.

Summary: For optimal performance, databases should not share servers with other applications.

Cause: Databases share servers with other applications.

Resolution: Move the databases to a dedicated server or ignore this alert if you are running a stand-alone server.

  • We strongly recommend that you always run the database on a dedicated server that is not running any other farm roles or hosting databases for any other application. The only exception is if you are running SharePoint Server 2010 on a stand-alone server.

    • For a stand-alone deployment, ignore this alert.

    • For a multiple sever deployment, move the databases to a dedicated server for optimal performance.
