How to Configure Commerce Server 2009 R2 Using the Configuration Wizard

After you install Commerce Server 2009 R2, you must run the Commerce Server Configuration Wizard to configure Commerce Server 2009 R2 components and create the appropriate database resources, based on installed features. When you run the Configuration Wizard, you specify the user account that will run Commerce Server services, the location of the Administration database, and the service accounts for the Staging and Direct Mailer services, if you installed them. Make sure you have the following information at hand:

If the Staging service is installed, the Configuration Wizard creates the CSS_SG Windows user group with the necessary permissions and adds the Staging service account to this group. Similarly, if Direct Mailer is installed, the Configuration Wizard creates the DML_SG Windows user group with the necessary permissions to run the Direct Mailer Service, and adds the Direct Mailer service account to this group.

You can save your configuration settings to an XML file when you run the Configuration Wizard, and load the configuration file to pre-populate the Configuration Wizard on another machine. The XML file does not store passwords for the service accounts, so you must still specify passwords in the Wizard interface.

The Commerce Server Configuration Wizard only configures Commerce Server 2009 R2 components. If you want to deploy SharePoint Commerce Services to use with your Web application, or want to deploy the Solution Storefront, you must use the SharePoint Commerce Services Configuration Wizard after Commerce Server configuration. See Commerce Server Solution Storefront for more information.

Before you proceed, make sure to have the following information at hand:

  • The name of the computer where the Commerce Server 2009 R2 Administration database is created tabase.
