Uninstalling Device Manager 2011 Client

This section provides instructions for uninstalling Device Manager 2011 client and Device Manager 2011 client upgrade on a device.

The following procedure references the tasks in Tasks for Software Distribution with a few modifications, specific to Device Manager 2011.

Important

Make sure you disable write filters before uninstalling Device Manager 2011 client. For more information, see Client Installation Requirements.

For more information about installer and upgrade installer file names, select the appropriate installer or upgrade installer file name from the table in Device Manager 2011 Client Installation.

To uninstall Device Manager 2011 client on a device

  1. Create a package. For more information, see How to Create a Package.

  2. Create a program. For more information, see How to Create a Program.

    Follow the steps in the Create a Program task with the following changes in the New Program Wizard:

    1. To uninstall Device Manager 2011 client completely, enter the following command on the General page, in the Command Line box:
      msiexec.exe /x <file name> /lv <log file> /qn
    2. To uninstall Device Manager 2011 client upgrade and restore the device to Device Manager 2011 client with no service packs, enter the following command on the General page, in the Command Line box:
      Msiexec /i EDMClient.msi MSIPATCHREMOVE= <file name> /qn /norestart /lv <LogFilename>.log
    3. On the General page, in the After running box, select Program restarts computer.
    4. On the Environment page, in the Run Mode box, select Run with administrative rights.
  3. Send a package to distribution points. For more information, see How to Send a Package to Distribution Points.

  4. Create an advertisement. For more information, see How to Create an Advertisement.

    Follow the steps in the Create an Advertisement task with the following changes in the New Advertisement Wizard:

    1. On the Schedule page, click the New icon to add assignments to Mandatory Assignments.
    2. On the Assignment Schedule page, select Assign immediately after this event, and then use the default selection of As soon as possible.
