Central Console is a System Center 2012 Operations Manager console that can be deployed to manage and monitor multiple System Center 2012 – Data Protection Manager (DPM) servers from a single location. Read more about Central Console features.

You can install Central Console on a System Center 2012 Operations Manager server with any of the following operating systems:

  • Windows Server 2012 R2

  • Windows Server 2012

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

  • Windows 8.1

  • Windows 8

  • Windows 7

Note that Central Console can’t be installed on the DPM server.

You deploy Central Console as follows:

  1. Install the Operations Manager agent—Install the Operations Manager agent on each DPM server you want to manage and monitor.

  2. Install Central Console—Install Central Console on the Operations Manager server.

Install the Operations Manager agent

Install the agent as follows:

  1. Install the agent on the DPM servers you want to monitor. For more information see Operations Manager Agent installation methods.

  2. After you install the Operations Manager agent, set the following registry key - [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager\3.0\Modules\Global\PowerShell] "ScriptLimit"=dword:0000000f. After you modify this setting, restart the Health Service (System Center Management).

Install Central Console

You install the Central Console by importing the DPM management pack on the Operations Manager server, and then installing Central Console.

  1. Import the DPM management pack as follows:

    1. On the Operations Manager server remove any existing System Center 2012 – Data Protection Manager (DPM) management packs.

    2. Import System Center 2012 – Data Protection Manager (DPM) management packs. The Central Console consists of two management packs - Microsoft.SystemCenter.DataProtectionManager.2012.Discovery.mp and Microsoft.SystemCenter.DataProtectionManager.2012.Library.mp - import both management packs. The management packs are located at <CDDrive:>\Management Packs.

Note that when you import the management pack, Windows displays a warning about write actions. This is an expected warning, and you can click OK to continue.

  2. After importing the pack install Central Console as follows:Install Central Console as follows:

    1. In the Setup screen of Operations Manager:

      • Select Install Central Console Server and Client side Components if you want to monitor DPM servers on which the Operations Manager agent is present and use the scoped DPM Administrator console.

      • Select Install Central Console if you want to use the scoped DPM Administrator console only, without server monitoring.

      • Select Install Central Console Server side Components if you want to monitor servers only, without using the scoped DPM Administrator console.

Note the following:

  • DPM adds firewall exceptions for port 6075 to enable scoped Administrator console. Open ports for SQL Server.exe and SQL browser.exe.
