This topic provides step-by-step instructions to create stand-alone media that is used to migrate to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager when using the Configuration Manager P2V Migration Toolkit. The stand-alone media contains a task sequence that automates the process of virtualizing a Configuration Manager 2007 site server for the Rehost path.

Prerequisites

Before you create the stand-alone media, you must create the task sequence that is stored on the media. For instructions to create the task sequence, see How to Create a Task Sequence for the Rehost Path of the Configuration Manager P2V Toolkit.

Ensure that you have one of the following types of media ready.

  • Blank CDs or DVD

  • USB flash drive

    Important

The USB flash drive is formatted during this process.

To create the stand-alone media

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft System Center, and then click P2V Migration Toolkit.

  2. In the administrative interface, click Create stand-alone media. In the Connect to Site dialog box, enter the Site Server Name and Site Code. The Stand-alone Media Wizard starts.

  3. If your media is an USB flash drive, insert the media into the media drive.

  4. On the Select Media Type page, select the type of media. If you chose USB flash drive, specify the drive by selecting it in the list. If you chose CD or DVD, specify the media capacity by selecting it in the list, and then specify a location and file name for storing the .iso files.

  5. To provide security for your media, select the check box in Media Password, and then type and retype the password in the boxes provided.

    Important

When you create password-protected media, the password is required to use the media.

  6. Click Next.

  7. On the Select Task Sequence page, specify the task sequence for this stand-alone media, and then click Next.

    Note

The wizard displays the information associated with the package references in the task sequence.

  8. On the Select Distribution Points page, click to select the distribution points that contain the package referenced by the task sequence, and then click Next.

  9. Complete the wizard.

Troubleshooting

Use this section for information that can help you troubleshoot issues.

Creating Stand-alone Media Issue: Failed to Create Stand-alone Media When There is not Enough Space

Problem: The Task Sequence Stand-alone Media Wizard fails to create the stand-alone media with an error about not enough space.

Solution: On the Windows drive, free up the disk space required for the wizard to copy the packages associated with the task sequence before creating the stand-alone media at the target save location.

Creating Stand-alone Media Issue: Cannot Click Next on the Select Distribution Points Page

Problem: On the Select Distribution Points page, the Next button is not available, even though all distribution points associated with packages are selected.

Solution: Connect to the Configuration Manager 2007 site server. Check that the distribution points of all packages associated with the task sequence are updated.

Next Steps

Now that you have created the stand-alone media that contains the task sequence, provide the media to the branch office administrator or the person who will do the hands-on migration.

Note

If you created .iso files, burn them onto CD or DVD media for the branch office administrator to do the hands-on migration.
