Understanding the Configuration Manager P2V Migration Toolkit Administrative Interface

You create the migration media that fits your migration scenario by using the Configuration Manager P2V Migration Toolkit administrative interface.

Stand-alone media for the Rehost path

You can create stand-alone media by using the Administrative interface. Stand-alone media is used in a migration scenario that can support a fully-automated virtualization process. To support the fully-automated process, the site server for migration must already be hosted on a server that meets Windows Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V role requirements. For information about hardware and software requirements, see Prerequisites for Configuration Manager P2V Migration Toolkit.

When you create stand-alone media for the Rehost path, you choose the option to create a task sequence, and then choose the option to create the stand-alone media. The stand-alone media is for running the fully-automated virtualization process on a server that is ready for the Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system and the Hyper-V role.

Boot media for the Image Capture-only path

You can create boot media by using the Administrative interface. Boot media is used in a migration scenario where the computer that hosts the site server will be taken offline and replaced.

When you create boot media for the Image Capture-only path, you’ll choose the option to create boot media. The boot media captures the site server image, creates a virtual hard disk (VHD), and saves the VHD to an offline location that you specify.

Next Steps

After you have completed migration planning, determined your migration path, and downloaded and installed Configuration Manager P2V Migration Toolkit, create the migration media for your migration path by using the instructions in one of the following topics.
