Prerequisites for the Configuration Manager P2V Migration Toolkit Administrative Interface

Before you install Configuration Manager P2V Migration Toolkit to create the stand-alone task sequence media for the Rehost path or the boot media for the Image Capture-only path, ensure that you have one of the following supported operating systems and the required software.

In addition, to create the stand-alone task sequence media, you must have Administrative rights in Configuration Manager 2007.

Important

To use Configuration Manager P2V Migration Toolkit on computers running Windows Server 2008 R2, you must enable Desktop Experience.

To enable Desktop Experience on Windows Server 2008 R2

  1. To start Server Manager click Start, click All Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.

  2. In the Server Manager navigation pane, click Features, and then click Add Features.

  3. Select Desktop Experience, and then follow the instructions in the wizard.

Important

The process for installing the Windows AIK on your computer is as follows: download the .iso file, write the .iso file to a DVD using a third party tool, and then install the Windows AIK from the DVD media.

Software required for creating stand-alone task sequence media

  • A Windows 7 boot image that includes any boot-critical device drivers for your specific hardware

  • A Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system image (available from your site) containing requisite boot-critical drivers for your specific hardware

  • A Configuration Manager 2007 client installation package

Prerequisites for the Branch Office Destination Server

The following hardware requirements and supported operating system apply to the branch office server that will host the virtualized Configuration Manager 2007 and System Center 2012 Configuration Manager for the side-by-side migration.

Hardware requirements

The branch office destination server that hosts the virtualized Configuration Manager 2007 site server must meet the hardware and settings requirements for Hyper-V. For more information about the requirements for Hyper-V, see Hyper-V Installation Prerequisites.

Prerequisites for the Branch Office Source Server for P2V Conversion

During the process of P2V conversion, the source server operating system is virtualized along with the Configuration Manager 2007 site server. The source server operating system must be one of the supported operating systems listed in the following table.
