You can associate compensation plans with employee performance so that the employee's performance rating affects the fixed pay increases and incentive compensation that the employee receives.

Create a performance plan

  1. Click Human resources > Setup > Compensation > Performance plans.

  2. Click New.

  3. Enter a name and description for the plan.

  4. Enter the effective and expiration dates for the plan.

Set up performance ratings

  1. Click Human resources > Setup > Compensation > Performance ratings.

  2. Click New.

  3. Enter the name and description of the performance rating. If your company uses a numeric scale for performance ratings, enter the rating number as the name.

  4. Enter the effective and expiration dates for the rating.

  5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each new performance rating.

Set up a pay for performance allocation

An allocation table associates a performance plan with performance ratings and uses a fixed pay matrix or a variable award matrix to associate performance ratings with performance factors.

  1. Click Human resources > Periodic > Compensation > Pay for performance allocations.

  2. Click New.

  3. Enter a name and description for the pay for performance allocation.

  4. Select the performance plan to set up an allocation for.

  5. Enter the effective and expiration dates for the allocation.

  6. Click Fixed pay matrix or Variable award matrix, depending on the compensation plan, to open the Allocation matrix form, where you can set up a pay matrix or an award matrix for the performance plan.

  7. In the Allocation matrix form, click New.

  8. Select a rating in the Rating field, and enter a corresponding performance factor in the Performance factor % field.

  9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 for each performance rating.

Enable pay for performance

  1. Click Human resources > Periodic > Compensation > Process events.

  2. Select the process event that includes the compensation plan to enable pay for performance for.

  3. In the upper pane, select a compensation plan and then select the Enable pay for performance check box.

    After you enable pay for performance for a compensation plan, each employee who is enrolled in the compensation plan is compensated, based on the performance ratings that they received in the compensation period.

Rate an employee

Employees must be enrolled in a compensation plan that uses pay for performance for the performance rating to affect the compensation increase or award for the employee.

  1. Click Human resources > Common > Workers > Workers. Select the employee to rate. On the Action Pane, click Compensation tab > Employee compensation group > Performance.

  2. Click New.

  3. Select a performance plan to rate the employee for.

  4. Select a rating for the employee.

  5. Enter the effective and expiration dates for the rating.
