The Windows® Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) includes tools and optional settings that you can use to perform deployment-related tasks.

Windows PE Tools

Windows PE includes the following tools:

• Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) Command-Line Options

• Diskpart Command-Line Options

• Drvload Command-Line Options

• Makewinpemedia Command-Line Options

• Oscdimg Command-Line Options

• Winpeshl.ini Files

• Wpeinit Command-Line Options

• Wpeutil Command-Line Options

Windows PE Answer Files

You can use the following configuration files and answer files when you build a customized version of Windows PE, or when you preinstall Windows together with Windows PE:

• Boot Configuration Data (BCD). For more information, see BCDboot Command-Line Options.

• Unattend.xml. For more information, see How to Create or Open an Answer File.
