Update Schema for Exchange Hybrid Deployment

If your organization is implementing an Exchange hybrid deployment, you will need to upgrade your Active Directory schema to the Exchange Server 2010 SP2 version. Before you begin, ensure you have the Exchange Server 2010 SP2 media available, or have downloaded the Exchange Server 2010 SP2 files to an available location.

Note

The domain controller on which you update your schema must be a 64-bit machine and included in the same Active Directory site as the schema master.

To update your Exchange schema for hybrid deployment

  1. Log on to your domain controller with an account that has schema administrative rights.

  2. Click Start, and then click Run.

  3. Type CMD, and then click OK.

  4. Navigate to the location of the Exchange Server 2010 SP2 media or downloaded files.

  5. Extract the executable. Note the location where you extract the files.

  6. Type CD <space> <directory location of Exchange Server 2010 SP2 binaries>. Example: cd c:\exchangeserver2010sp2

  7. Press Enter.

  8. Type setup/prepared, and then press Enter.

Wait for the tool to copy files, perform pre-requisite checks, and complete the organizational preparation. When complete you should see a message The Microsoft Exchange Server setup operation completed successfully.
