It’s important to plan your SharePoint Online deployment early in the overall Office 365 deployment planning process because it will influence your decisions around identity provisioning and authentication, content implementation, training, etc. You will also want to review the SharePoint Online Service Description to understand what features and functionality are included with your SharePoint Online plan.

For a deeper walk through on SharePoint specific planning we will continually refer to the SharePoint Online Planning Guide for Office 365 Enterprise and Midsize. This comprehensive planning guide consists of a series of articles that guide SharePoint Online admins, site collection admins, and site owners through the steps involved in setting up and using SharePoint Online sites.

Additionally, we recommend these additional resources:

For more information on the phases, solutions, and functionality that SharePoint Server 2013 and SharePoint Online hybrid environments support, see the article Hybrid for SharePoint Server 2013
