Lotus Notes Migration Tools

Applies to: Office 365 Deployment Guide for Enterprises

Topic Last Modified: 2012-06-07

The following deployment tools assist in migrating from IBM Lotus Notes to Office 365.

The Microsoft Online Notes Inspector (MONTI) application helps evaluate how much data needs to be migrated from a customer's Lotus Notes environment to the Office 365 messaging platform.

MONTI processes mail files to determine the total database size, document count (calendar, contacts, groups, mail, and tasks), and size by days. It also processes Mail-In Databases to determine the total database size, and Size by Days. MONTI results can be seen under the People, Mail-In Databases, and Logs views. Reports can be generated manually or scheduled.

You can download the MONTI application and accompanying documentation from the Microsoft Download Center. Information in the documentation describes how to deploy, configure, and run the MONTI application in a customer’s Domino environment. The deployment and configuration steps must be completed before MONTI can run on client Domino servers. MONTI troubleshooting information is also provided.

The Directory Preparation (DirPrep) script facilitates a successful migration from Lotus Notes to the Office 365 messaging platform.

The Lotus Notes-to-Active Directory preparation process readies a customer's Domino environment for migration to the Exchange Online service. The directory preparation process uses the DirPrep script to populate all of the email-related attributes for user accounts, create accounts to represent shared/group mailboxes, create accounts for rooms and resources, and create groups in Active Directory for each group being migrated from Lotus Notes.

You can download the DirPrep script and accompanying documentation from the Microsoft Download Center. The documentation includes information about deployment and configuration of the DirPrep script. It also describes how to prepare specific directory objects in your Domino environment for synchronization to an on-premises Active Directory environment. After this synchronization is complete, you are then able to provision Exchange Online users through directory synchronization of your on-premises Active Directory with the Office 365 environment.
