Consume protected content in a Word document

To consume an information rights management (IRM) rights protected document using Microsoft Word

  1. Share the document with another user and have the user open the document.

    noteNote
    The first time you use IRM functionality you will need to contact the Windows Azure AD Rights Management service to get the IRM client fully configured which requires prompting you to enter credentials.

  2. Enter your Office 365 credentials to complete configuration of the Office IRM client.

  3. If the user is authorized, the document will open and have the usage restrictions enforced.
