Browsing Data Sources

From a Message Analyzer Browse Session, you can locate saved data files and build a message collection containing the data that you want to import. Browse Sessions are accessible from the Backstage view, which you can display by clicking the File tab on the UI. From a Browse Session, you can target message data to be imported from one or more data sources such as saved trace files or logs, select the specific files containing the data you want to work with, and add a Selection Filter expression to the data import, as described in Selecting Data. You can also configure and apply a Time Filter to a data import so that you can view data in a selected window of time only.

By configuring a Selection Filter and/or Time Filter, you can limit data retrieval during the import process, so that smaller, more targeted message sets can be extracted from sources containing high volumes of data. This optimizes the import process because it results in the following:

  • More manageable data sets that focus only on specific data, optionally in a configurable window of time.

  • Better performance when loading message data.

  • More effective data analysis.

  • An environment that can be more easily shared.

Browse Session features and functions are described in the following topics of this section:

    Configuring a Browse Session

    Merging and Aggregating Message Data

    Performing an Import

    Modifying the Current Browse Session

    Using the Quick Open Feature
