Summary: Helps you resolve issues when an event indicates that the master server of an Office Web Apps Server farm can't be reached.

This System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) Management Pack knowledge article (KA) provides suggested resolutions for the problem that occurs when the master server of an Office Web Apps Server farm can't be reached.

Event Name: Master Server is Unreachable

Event IDs: 8118

Symptom: The master server in the Office Web Apps Server farm cannot be contacted.

Cause: A failed master server.

Resolution: One or more of the following actions might resolve the issue:

  • Make sure that all computers on the farm have network connectivity.

  • Restart the master server.

  • If the master server does not function, switch the master server role to another computer in the Office Web Apps Server farm by using the Set-OfficeWebAppsMachine Windows PowerShell cmdlet.

  • If the master server is permanently broken, remove it from the Office Web Apps Server farm by using the Repair-OfficeWebAppsFarm Windows PowerShell cmdlet.
