Using the WS-Management and SMASH Device Discovery Template

Discovery and monitoring of SMASH enabled devices occurs through the use of the WS-Management and SMASH Device Discovery Template.

The WS-Management and SMASH Device Discovery Template

Enable SMASH device monitoring

  1. Open the Operations console, and then in the navigation pane, click the Authoring button.

  2. In the Authoring navigation pane, under the Actions node, click Use a template to add monitoring to management pack.

  3. In the Tasks pane, under the Management Pack Templates node, click Add Monitoring Wizard.

  4. On the Select Monitoring Type page, select WS-Management and SMASH Device Discovery, and click Next.

  5. On the Template Name and Description page, enter a name and description for the template. Select a destination management pack or create a new one, and click Next.

  6. On the Specify the target page, select the resource pool from which the SMASH enabled devices will be monitored, and click Next.

  7. On the Credentials page, you must create a new Run As account to run discovery. When creating a Run As account, only use simple or windows authentication modes. Click New and follow the wizard directions. Once the Run As account is created, click Next.

  8. On the Devices page, add SMASH enabled devices to the list by clicking Add at the top of the list field.

    On the Add Devices page, specify the IP range to scan for devices, and then click on Advanced Options.

    For example, on the Advanced Settings page, select both Skip CA Check and Skip CN Check by checking the respective boxes, and then click OK.

    On the Add Devices page, click Scan for Devices to populate the list of available devices.

    Select the devices to add to the Available Devices list, and click Add.

    Ensure the list of devices is correct in the Selected Devices list, and click OK.

  9. On the Devices page, select the devices you want to monitor from the list and click Next.

  10. On the Summary page, confirm the devices you want to add are in the Devices to Add list, and click Create.
