Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE) Transition Center

Exchange 2013

Applies to: Exchange Online Protection

Topic Last Modified: 2013-09-20

Exchange Online Protection (EOP) is the latest version of Microsoft Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE) and includes enhanced anti-spam and anti-malware protection, greater flexibility in managing email policies, and an improved administration experience. If you’re a current FOPE customer, you will be transitioned to EOP beginning in the third quarter of 2013. This documentation provides you with information about what to expect before, during, and after your transition.

This documentation is designed for customers who use FOPE to protect on-premises mailboxes. If you are using FOPE as part of Office 365, your transition to EOP will take place as part of the Office 365 service upgrade. For more information about the Office 365 service upgrade, please visit the Office 365 Service Upgrade Center. If you don’t know if you’re using Office 365 after the service upgrade, see Am I using Office 365 after the service upgrade?

Transitions from FOPE to EOP will begin in the third quarter of 2013, and continue throughout the calendar year. You will be notified of your individual transition date via email 30 days prior to your transition.

When it is time to begin your transition, we will create an EOP tenant for you and transfer your FOPE settings and configuration to EOP. When this process is complete, you will receive an email asking you to sign in to your new service and update your MX record. After your MX record is updated, email will begin flowing through EOP instead of FOPE, and your transition will be complete.

Before, during, and after the transition, your organization’s mail flow will continue to be protected.
