Updated: March 26, 2014

Applies To: Windows Server 2012 Essentials, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials

When you turn on the Anywhere Access functionalities—Remote Web Access, virtual private network, and DirectAccess—in Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials, or in Windows Server 2012 R2 with the Windows Server Essentials Experience role installed, they enable your network users to access server resources from any location with an Internet connection, at any time, and on any device. The following topics discuss configuring Remote Web Access, virtual private network (VPN), and DirectAccess features on your server.

  • Manage Remote Web Access in Windows Server Essentials

Remote Web Access provides a stream-lined, touch-friendly browser experience for accessing applications and data from virtually anywhere that you have an Internet connection and by using almost any device.

  • Manage VPN in Windows Server Essentials

Virtual private network (VPN) connections enable users working at home or on the road to access a server on a private network by using the infrastructure provided by a public network, such as the Internet.

  • Configure DirectAccess in Windows Server Essentials

DirectAccess enables you to seamlessly connect to your organization’s network from any Internet-equipped remote location without having to establish a virtual private network (VPN) connection. DirectAccess provides increased productivity for your organization’s mobile workforce by offering the same connectivity experience inside and outside of the office.
