A hybrid environment that uses SharePoint Server 2013 and SharePoint Online enables solutions that integrate functionality between services and features such as Search, Microsoft Business Connectivity Services, and Duet Enterprise Online for Microsoft SharePoint and SAP in both environments. This article describes the phases, solutions, and functionality that SharePoint Server 2013 and SharePoint Online hybrid environments support.

To configure a hybrid SharePoint environment, you need a combination of expert skills and significant hands-on experience with SharePoint Server 2013, SharePoint Online, and related products and technologies. The tasks that you must complete to configure a hybrid SharePoint Server 2013 and SharePoint Online environment are divided into three phases, which you must complete in order:

  • Phase 1: Configure the hybrid environment infrastructure

  • Phase 2: Configure the hybrid identity management infrastructure

  • Phase 3: Configure a hybrid solution by using Search, Business Connectivity Services or Duet Enterprise Online

The instructions in these articles should not be performed outside the phased, end-to-end deployment for a specific SharePoint 2013 hybrid scenario.
