Step 9: Verify the Synchronization

Verifying the ECMA2 SQL Azure test lab consists of the following:

  • Run a Full Import on the SQL_Azure

  • Run a Full Import on the AD

  • Run a Full Synchronization on the SQL_Azure

  • Run a Full Synchronization on the AD

  • Run an Export on the SQL_AZURE

  • Run an Export on the AD

  • Run a Full Import on the SQL_AZURE

  • Run a Full Import on the AD

  • Run a Delta Synchronization on the SQL_AZURE

  • Run a Delta Synchronization on the AD

  • Verify the new users in the SQL database.

  • Verify the new users are in Active Directory.

  • Snapshot the Configuration

Run a Full Import on the SQL_AZURE

In order to verify our management agents, we will start by populating the connector spaces of each connector.

To Run a Full Import on the SQL_AZURE

  1. In the Synchronization Service Manager, at the top, under Management Agents, click SQL_AZURE.

  2. On the right, under Actions menu, click Run. This opens the Run Management Agent window.

  3. From the list, select Full Import and then click OK. This will take a moment. It should finish with Import Statistics in the lower left window and no errors and tow imports.

Run a Full Import on the AD

In order to verify our management agents, we will start by populating the connector spaces of each MA.

To run a Full Import on the AD

  1. In the Synchronization Service Manager, at the top, under Management Agents, click AD.

  2. On the right, under Actions menu, click Run. This opens the Run Management Agent window.

  3. From the list, select Full Import and then click OK. This will take a moment. It should finish with Import Statistics in the lower left window and no errors and tow imports.

Run a Full Synchronization on the SQL_AZURE

Now that the connector spaces are populated we will run synchronizations to project objects into the metaverse and provision objects to their respective connector spaces.

To run a Full Synchronization on the SQL_AZURE

  1. In the Synchronization Service Manager, at the top, under Management Agents, click SQL_AZURE.

  2. On the right, under Actions menu, click Run. This opens the Run Management Agent window.

  3. From the list, select Full Synchronization and then click OK. This will take a moment. It should finish with Synchronization Statistics in the lower left window and no errors.

Run a Full Synchronization on the AD

Run an Export on the SQL_AZURE

Now we will run and export and export the new objects into SQL.

  3. From the list, select Export and then click OK. This will take a moment. It should finish with Export Statistics in the lower left window and no errors.

Run an Export on the AD

Now we will run and export and export the new objects into Active Directory.

  1. In the Synchronization Service Manager, at the top, under Management Agents, click AD.

Run a Full Import on the SQL_AZURE

Now we will run an import to confirm our export to SQL.

  1. In the Synchronization Service Manager, at the top, under Management Agents, click SQL_AZURE.

  2. On the right, under Actions menu, click Run. This opens the Run Management Agent window.

  3. From the list, select Full Import and then click OK. This will take a moment. It should finish with Import Statistics in the lower left window and no errors and tow imports.

Run a Full Import on the AD

Now we will run an import to confirm our export to AD.

Run a Delta Synchronization on the SQL_AZURE

Now we will run a delta synchronization on the SQL_AZURE

  1. In the Synchronization Service Manager, at the top, under Management Agents, click SQL_AZURE.

  2. On the right, under Actions menu, click Run. This opens the Run Management Agent window.

  3. From the list, select Full Synchronization and then click OK. This will take a moment. It should finish with Synchronization Statistics in the lower left window and no errors.

Run a Delta Synchronization on the AD

Now we will run a delta synchronization on the AD

To run a Delta Synchronization on the AD

  1. In the Synchronization Service Manager, at the top, under Management Agents, click AD.

  2. On the right, under Actions menu, click Run. This opens the Run Management Agent window.

  3. From the list, select Full Synchronization and then click OK. This will take a moment. It should finish with Synchronization Statistics in the lower left window and no errors.

Verify the new users in the SQL Azure database.

Now check the SQL Azure database to verify the users have been created.

To verify the new users are in the SQL Azure database.

  1. On FIM1, open Internet Explorer and type www.windowsazure.com in the address bar. Hit enter.

  2. On the Windows Azure site, log in to the Management Portal. This should bring up All Items.

  3. Click on the Contoso database. This will bring up the SQL Azure databases. At the bottom click Manage. This will bring up the SQL Database Management Portal.

  4. Log in using the sa_fim account. This will allow us to administer the Contoso database.

  5. At the top, click New Query and type Select * from HR in the box. Click Run.

  6. Once this completes, you should see 4 users. The original 2 and now Lola and Britta should be in the database.

  7. You can close the Azure management portal.

Verify the new users are in Active Directory.

Now check to make sure the two users from SQL were created in Active Directory

To verify the new users are in Active Directory

  1. Log on to DC1 as corp\Administrator.

  2. Click Start, select Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers. This will open the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC.

  3. In the Active Directory Users and Computers click on ECMA2. Verify that there are now 4 users in the ECMA2 OU.

Snapshot the Configuration

This completes the test lab. You can now attempt to do additional synchs testing account deletion and attribute changes. To save this configuration for additional test labs, do the following:

  1. On all physical computers or virtual machines in the test lab, close all windows and then perform a graceful shutdown.

  2. If your lab is based on virtual machines, save a snapshot of each virtual machine and name the snapshots FIM Test Lab. If your lab uses physical computers, create disk images to save the FIM Test Lab.
