Set-NetVirtualizationCustomerRoute

Changes the metric value for virtual routes.

Detailed Description

The Set-NetVirtualizationCustomerRoute cmdlet changes the metric value for virtual routes in a Microsoft® Hyper-V® Server 2012 virtual network. Network Virtualization allows more than one virtual network to exist on the same physical network. Computers can exchange network traffic with a virtual machine (VM) by using a Customer Address within a virtual network. Network Virtualization uses the metric to choose a preferred route from several possible routes. You can use the Get-NetVirtualizationCustomerRoute cmdlet to get routes to modify, or you can use any combination of the following values to specify which routes to modify:

-- Destination prefix. A range of IP addresses as an IP prefix.
-- Next hop. A next hop gateway for the specified destionation addresses.
-- Routing domain ID. An ID for a virtual network that can include multiple virtual subnets.
-- Virtual subnet ID. An ID for a virtual subnet.

Parameters

-AsJob

Runs the cmdlet as a background job. Use this parameter to run commands that take a long time to complete. The cmdlet immediately returns an object that represents the job and then displays the command prompt. You can continue to work in the session while the job completes. To manage the job, use the *-Job cmdlets. To get the job results, use the Receive-Job cmdlet. For more information about Windows PowerShell® background jobs, see about_Jobs.

Specifies the maximum number of concurrent operations that can be established to run the cmdlet. If this parameter is omitted or a value of 0 is entered, then Windows PowerShell® calculates an optimum throttle limit for the cmdlet based on the number of CIM cmdlets that are running on the computer. The throttle limit applies only to the current cmdlet, not to the session or to the computer.

Examples

Example 1: Change a metric value

This command changes the metric value to 3 for a Customer Route that has the specified destination prefix.


PS C:\> Set-NetVirtualizationCustomerRoute -DestinationPrefix "172.16.0.0/16" -Metric 3

Example 2: Change a metric value for mulitple Customer Routes

This command uses the Get-NetVirtualizationCustomerRoute to get all the Customer Routes that have a next hop gateway of 172.16.0.1. The command passes them by using the pipe operator to the Set-NetVirtualizationCustomerRoute cmdlet, which changes the metric value to 3 for those Customer Routes.


PS C:\> Get-NetVirtualizationCustomerRoute -NextHop "172.16.0.1" | Set-NetVirtualizationCustomerRoute -Metric 3
