Backup.Action Property

Gets or sets the type of backup to be performed.

Namespace:  Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo
Assembly:  Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended (in Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended.dll)

public BackupActionType Action { get; set; }

Property Value

Type: Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.BackupActionType
A BackupActionType object representing the type of backup to be performed. By default the value is set to Database.

Microsoft SQL Server can back up an entire database, that portion of a database changed after the last backup, one or more operating system files containing table or index data, or the transaction log of a database.

The value of the Action property determines applicability and interpretation of related Backup object properties.

VB

'Connect to the local, default instance of SQL Server.
Dim srv As Server
srv = New Server
'Reference the AdventureWorks2012 database.
Dim db As Database
db = srv.Databases("AdventureWorks2012")
'Define a Backup object variable.
Dim bk As New Backup
'Specify the type of backup, the description, the name, and the database to be backed up.
bk.Action = BackupActionType.Database

PowerShell

$srv = new-Object Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server("(local)")
$db = New-Object Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Database
$db = $srv.Databases.Item("AdventureWorks2012")
$bk = new-object Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Backup
$bk.Action = [Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.BackupActionType]::Database
