How to: Install Analysis Services Side-by-Side with an Earlier Version

You can install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services (SSAS) side-by-side with an instance of SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services. However the instance of SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services must always be the default instance, and the instance of SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services must always be a named instance, because SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services does not support named instances.

If you later remove the default instance of SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services, you can make an instance of SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services the default instance by using the Analysis Services Instance Rename tool. For more information, see How to: Rename an Instance of Analysis Services.
